This week we caught up with 'that Man City chick' Tanya Davis, to talk Oasis, Premier League trophies and the 96/97 Manchester City home kit.
Hey Tanya! Firstly could you tell us a bit about yourself?
Yo! So my first experience with football would be playing at primary school. Unfortunately at the time there wasn’t much of a female football scene so I had no opportunities to take it further so I just became a casual fan.
These days people would either know me as that Man City chick who runs an Official Supporters Club for Man City with my mate Patrick in Sydney or either as the Melbourne City Social Media Presenter for the men’s team.
I went out to watch a cup final at the casino with a mate and next minute I was hanging out with other local City fans... next minute I’m helping to host fans watch games at pubs and travelling the world to watch City play!
Tell us about some of your favourite experiences that being part of the city set up has given you?
Being an Official Supporter Club member we definitely get some pretty cool set ups sometimes. We’ve been lucky enough to host the Man City Trophy Tour twice in Sydney where I got to do a Q&A with Paul Dickov and Micah Richards.
To help bring that experience to Australia is definitely a highlight. Also I’ve been fortunate enough to travel to some preseason events where the club really looks after us and organises meet and greets with first team players. People might think we are a big club but honestly the relationship between club and fans is so close and tight knit, and that’s why we are able to have access to such intimate events.
Stepping out on the pitch at my first A-League game was pretty cool too, like what?! I just used to just listen to Oasis, go to the pub and watch Man City - when City took over Melbourne Heart and became Melbourne City it was a logical choice to follow them and now I’m standing around Scott Jamieson and Jamie Maclaren?! I get to show fans how I love this team ? *Mind exploding sound* (If there is such a thing haha)
Now, which Kit have you chosen for your MY KIT? (Favourite kit you own)
MY KIT of choice is the 1996-1997 Man City Home kit
What is it about this kit that connects with you?
So to me it just screams Manchester and reminds me of the Gallagher brothers from Oasis. I think a lot of our 90’s kits are iconic because they are just proper classic kits. I love the 90’s. I’m a 90’s kid.
Which players are most synonymous with this kit for you?
Most people would align this kit with Georgi Kinkladze, he was a bit of a cult hero because he was fancy with his feet and scored some great goals. This was also the year Dickov joined aswell!
